This unusual dress carries the label "Habitmaker Sportswear, with "Free Action Sleeves"". The unlined dress is in a quite liquid fabric, like a medium-weight gaberdine but with plenty of movement to it. The dress is short sleeved. The bodice fastens at centre front with 3 fabric buttons which are in the centre of a rounded bib effect, surrounded by 1" gathered/pleated frill. The bodice back is lightly gathered onto a shoulder yoke, for fullness. The collar has top-stitching as decoration. There is a 1½" deep waistband which is secured at the left side with a button. Above this button is a 5½" slit going up the side seam of the bodice, and secured with a metal popper. Below this the skirt has an 8" metal zipper. The skirt is made up of a number of vertical panels of fabric which give some fullness and aids movement. The dress is in Very Good condition with a small number of period repairs (darns) and there is a 1" long opening in the right waist side seam which needs re-stitching. Other than this, considering the purpose of this garment it is in overall remarkable condition and remains more than wearable. |
