| click image to enlarge | 1940s evening dress with bolero jacket
This is sexy 1940s evening dress with jacket, there is no makers label but the outfit appears to be professionally made. The black fabric in the skirt and jacket is a rather slinky crepe-type fabric, whilst the dress bodice has an illusion effect with flesh-coloured fabric under a layer of black lace. Only the dress bodice is lined. The dress fastens at the left side with a 16" metal zipper. Inside there is a ¾" petersham waist band which secures at the left side with a small metal hook/eye. The bodice has 3 pieces of boning to give shape and form. The skirt has 2 areas of smocking/gathering 2½" wide at front waist which gives the skirt extra fullness (see images). The seams are pinked and there is a 2½" hem on the skirt. The unlined bolero jacket fastens at the centre front neck with a hook/eye. There are large shoulder pads. The sleeves narrow down to a pointed hemline with a 4" slash opening which is fastened by 5 fabric covered buttons and loops. I can find no faults or flaws, the dress & jacket are in Excellent condition. Unfortunately the images showing the jacket did not turn out and will be taken again and added to this page later. |
