This is a superb 1940s cocktail dress, which carries no tags but is absolutely professionally made. The dress is unlined, in a light-weight navy blue fabric similar to crepe.

The dress fastens at the left of waist with a 9" metal zipper. The original belt is ¾" wide. The highlight of the dress has to be the front neckline! The navy fabric is cut in a deep V shape at the front. This is filled with a sweetheart shape neckline in a cream grosgrain fabric covered in navy dots. This inner sweetheart-shape fill has a row of 4 small buttons each with a diamante in the centre.
The V shape neckline is then edged with the same cream/navy grosgrain fabric which is curved to form a collar and lapels, and is then highlighted at the right side with a large navy button which has several diamantes in it. The skirt has two pockets at each front hip, these are curved and on the diagonal, and edged with piping in the cream/navy grosgrain fabricOverall the dress is in Excellent condition - however at the front right shoulder are two minute pin-head holes which makes me think the dress carried a corsage at one point - perhaps for a wedding? These pinholes were impossible to photograph.
