Carnegie UK vintage maxi dress with
shawl fringe sleeves, Bust 36"This dress carries the label
"Carnegie of London" - a well-known and respected UK designer
label, with no association to Hattie Carnegie I am afraid.
Size tag UK 14 - bust 35½ hips 37½. Actual measurements are :
- Bust = 38"
- Waist = 32"
- Hips = 38"
- Shoulder to hem = 54"
The dress is unlined, and I have no idea of the fabric content - it is
medium weight, similar to bark cloth. The fabric is black, with bright
pink, grey and red flowers and green foliage.
There is a 16" zipper at centre back. The dress has a square neckline
and is Princess-line (no waist seam).
There is a 16" deep slit at the centre back hem seam, to give
ease of movement.
However, the distinctive feature of the dress has to be the sleeves!!!
They are 22" long pagoda shape sleeves which then have a black
shawl-type fringe which is 18" deep!!! They convert the dress from being
a standard floral maxi dress, to one with a dramatic and unique feature!
Whilst a long maxi dress may not be your style, these days - use your
imagination in seeing this as a short dress or even cut down as an ultra
dramatic top to go with jeans or your favourite skirt! Those sleeves,
with the distinctive long fringing, are at the very least the ultimate
talking point for any fashionista!
