Edwardian white lawn dress, embroidery, B 32/34"
This is fabulous Edwardian lawn dress with beautiful white-on-white
embroidery.
- Bust - 32/34"
Waist - 22"
Shoulder to hem = 55"
Skirt circumference at hem = 120"
- The bodice has the typical "pigeon-chest" effect of this period,
gathered at the shoulders and into the centre waist band. The bodice
has an attractive white-on-white embroidered panel across the front
and at the back shoulders.
- The skirt is pin-tucked from the waist band for 7" giving
fullness to the skirt. The skirt has a band of white-on-white
embroidery and faggoting above the hem - and then a band of
scalloped-shaped white-on-white embroidery just above the flounced
hem, which is slightly gathered.
- The dress fastens at centre back - above the waist band there
are 4 pearlised buttons. The 2¼" deep waist band - which has
white-on-white embroidery and 3 pieces of boning - fastens with 3
metal hook/eyes. Below the waistband, the skirt has a 9" deep
opening which is fastened with 4 small metal hook/eyes.
- The stand-up neckband is 1" deep and topped with a further 1"
trim of lace. The neckband has 3 pieces of celluloid boning.
- The 17" long sleeves gather onto the dress and narrow to a 2"
deep cuff with lace and an 8½" circumference.
Overall, the dress is in good to very good condition. There is a 1"
tear to the right shoulder, which I think can be easily repaired. The
dress is a little yellowed and would benefit from cleaning.
A great dress from this period and an attractive addition to any
collection - perfect as a display or study piece. |
