1890s Victorian bolero jacket
  • Bust = 30"
  • Sleeves = 17"
  • Shoulder to hem = 13"
  • Across back = 11"

Quite a delightful Victorian bolero jacket, presumably for a young girl/lady judging by the measurements above.  The jacket is in what seems to be a wool/silk blend fabric lined with polished cotton.  The fabric is a light to medium grey in colour with cream braid and lace decoration.

The jacket is open at the front with no fastenings.  There are strips of grey silk attached to each front edge, presumably to aid fastening, but these are now splitting.

The edges of the jacket and the sleeves are all highlighted with swirling and looped bands of cream braid and tape lace.  The 'leg of mutton' sleeves are fully gathered at the top and have a 3" deep turned back cuff.

A lovely piece, more than wearable even now, but an interesting discussion/display piece.
